We have 2-hour rehearsals once per week with a small break in the middle

They are held in the studio space at SEESAW (near Canal Street) in central Manchester at 7:45pm weekly

The atmosphere is a careful balance of sociable and fun whilst also productive with a focus on quality of output to result in a setlist for our end of season show

Rehearsals are primarily lead by Douglas Lloyd (musical director) with occasional guest MDs stepping in for variety

The Musical Director and rehearsal leader:

Douglas Lloyd

Professional tenor vocalist, musical director, member of The Apex Singers and Elision, and award winning vocal arranger

A NOTE FROM THE MUSICAL DIRECTOR:

IMG_9173.jpg

"Union Point is about making ambitious music together and having a great time doing it. I run rehearsals with energy, focus and plenty of room to experiment, but I expect everyone to arrive ready to contribute, learn quickly and give the music their full commitment in the room so we can make exciting music together!

You don’t need to be able to read music, although it certainly helps. Music and individual part-learning tracks are provided ahead of rehearsals for every arrangement, and spending a little time with these between sessions makes rehearsals faster, more creative and more enjoyable for everyone.

You don’t need to be perfect. Just try and come prepared, open-minded and ready to bring something to the room. It's not just about learning music, it is about sharing and developing a love for vocal music more broadly and having a great time whilst doing so.

Bring the energy, trust the process, and we’ll build something brilliant together"

Key Information/FAQs

Heading 1

3

Is it all just singing?!

Not at all. Alongside rehearsals, there are live performances, professional recordings, video shoots and plenty of socials, some less official than others. Our singers range from enthusiastic hobbyists to experienced and professional performers, all brought together by a love of making great music.

2

Is it for me?!

If you love singing, building big harmonies and exploring great music, absolutely. There are no auditions and you don’t need to read music, but we do expect some preparation between rehearsals so we can spend our time together making music, not just learning notes.

1

Type of singing?!

We sing vocal arrangements of everything from charting pop music to traditional folk and everything in between in 4 part harmony and beyond. We are an A Cappella choir so beatboxers and vocal percussion is needed also!
